As a small business owner, it is very challenging to find time to work 'on' your business rather than becoming embroiled 'in' it. Small business owners often juggle many different roles. Most can and do turn their hand to anything that needs to be done. Small business owners are also, in my experience, the hardest working people that I know. Yet to make a business really successful, it isn't all about working all hours God sends; it's about making your business TRULY successful. This means getting clarity on the what, why and how of your business. It's about defining your vision, creating a 'workable' business plan with steps and time-lines as to how you get your business to where you want to go. In a Business Review Day I help small businesses by getting the owner take a day away from their business to begin working 'on' the busines, so it can become more successful.
HOW MUCH DO YOU NEED TO HAVE A REVIEW?
Is your business in a healthy place? Let me ask you a few quick questions:
- Do you have a vision and know where your business is
going?
- Are you making
a good profit for the time and effort you put in?
- Do you have a business plan that maps
out your business growth and development?
- Are you and your business playing to your natural strengths? Or are you constantly fighting fires?
- Do you have financial reserve? Or do you have cash flow constraints and overdrafts?
- Does your business allow you
time to enjoy life and have fun?
If you answered 'No' to any of these questions,
your business may not be as healthy as it should be. Spending some time looking 'under the hood' will be of great benefit to you.
WHAT IS A BUSINESS REVIEW DAY?
It is a day spent looking at
your business from all different angles to see where the issues, challenges,
and opportunities lie. No two businesses are alike, so your Business Review Day
is uniquely tailored to you. The process begins with a telephone call (30–45 minutes) so I can get a very clear picture of what you need, to make the most from our time together. I will then put together a schedule and email this to you. On the day of the Business Review, I will arrive at your premises at 9:00 am and we'll wrap-up at 4:30 pm. I suggest a working lunch together. A few days after your business review, I will email to you a report that includes all of the things we have covered, as well as any tools, skills, links or resources that came up in our discussions. The cost for the day is £600. If you live more than 50 miles away from Portland, there is an additional charge for travelling. See below – or jump to it.
CAN I USE THE REVIEW DAY TO TACKLE ANYTHING
Yes. I want you to get maximum benefit from my day with you. If you need to focus on one area of you business – for example reviewing your team – strengths, weaknesses, difficulties or conflict – then I am happy to help you with this. In such cases, I can spend some of the time with your team and/or provide facilitation.
GETTING THE MOST FROM YOUR DAY
If your business is very small, investing in a Business Review Day is not a small consideration. So let me ask you to consider what it is you REALLY want to get back from your investment in this day? Email me this to me if you wish, and I will reply with what I believe is (or is not) possible. I want to ensure you get back more than you invested.
3 FOLLOW-ON COACHING SESSIONS – Special Offer! It's very easy to take a day out to work 'on' your business, be fired-up, and have the steps clearly identified in a report – and then, despite your best intentions, find yourself back 'in' the business. To ensure you do what you have decided to do, you may wish to have 3 follow-on sessions where I will coach and keep you accountable to what you said you would do. If you book this service within 2 weeks of having a Business Review Day, I can offer you 3 telephone coaching sessions at the special price of £175. See business coaching for more on how this works.
TRAVELLING COSTS
I live on Portland, Dorset. It's beautiful and I love it here – but I know that most of you will be some distance from me. So, I travel the first 50 miles (out and back) free of charge. Thereafter my mileage is charged at 35p per mile. If you are more than 150 miles from Portland, I will also charge for one night's stay at a Premier Inn (or equivalent) nearby to you, so I can be with you first thing. If you are in London, I usually take the train and the cost is simply the ticket. If you are in The North, Scotland or Ireland, call me: I can easily get to Southampton Airport which has excellent connections.
WHY CHOOSE TO WORK WITH ME?
I have been self-employed since 1990. Before I was a coach, I started, ran, grew and after 13 years, successfully sold my Graphic Design company to another studio. During this time I made and survived lots of business mistakes – and learnt from them. I hired and occasionally had to fire people. I had cash-cow periods but also times when my staff were paid and I wasn't. Along the way I learnt so very much and my lessons I pass on to you.
Today, as well as Red Dandelion I run The Jasmine House and Selling Small Business. This year I am also in the process of becoming one of the leaders in a not-for-profit healing centre in Weymouth. I began my first business in a recession and I'm personally doing well in this challenging climate. So, I come not only as a business and life coach, but also as a fellow small business owner. I'll be your mentor, consultant (where I have expertise knowledge), life-skills teacher, cheerleader and motivator. I tailor these days exclusively to you – I will work with you on the areas that you choose and show up in the roles you need the most. WOULD YOU LIKE TO BOOK?
I would be delighted to speak to you about how I might be able to help you. I am happy to answer your queries: I want you to ensure you get the most from our time together. Call me on 01305 821799 or 0845 83 86 733 (lo call rate) or email me if you prefer.

INVESTING IN A BUSINESS REVIEW
In this economic climate, you need to ensure that you get a good return on every investment you make: people, advertising, marketing, and the decision to have a Business Review Day.
My fee for a Business Review Day is:
This includes: a 30-40 minute telephone call prior to the day to discuss what you want to achieve. From this, I will create a schedule and email it to you. On the day, I will arrive at 9 am and we'll wrap-up at 4.30 pm. Within a few days of my visit, you will receive a report covering all of the key points so you have everything in writing. Please see main text for any traveling costs – or click here to jump there!
Business Review Days are uniquely tailored to you, but typically at the end of a day you will have:
• Clarity on your vision and purpose for your business.
• A plan of how to get from where you are now, to where you want to go to.
• A time-line of the steps.
• A summary of any tools or skills that we covered.
• Links to websites where further help can be obtained.
Benefits of a Business Review Day
Clarity. Often you are too close to what you are doing to see the bigger picture.
Assessment. How well are you doing compared to your vision/plans? Where you want to take the business to next? By when?
Solutions. Every business has a few challenges. Because I am not emotionally attached, it allows me to see and share with you new ideas and solutions.
A strategy. I will help you plan a strategy to get your business from where you are to where you need go. This will be included in my report.
Testimonials
I was not sure what to expect from the Business Review Day, but knew that a thorough review of my businesses was vital. I came out of the day with a much clearer strategy for growing my business and of how to achieve this. Just three months on I am seeing the benefit of Jennie's advice and we are moving into new offices. As I have always found with Jennie, she gets straight to the crux of the issues and works with me to find the best way forward. The day has already paid for itself several times over!
Nick Jervis, Samson Consulting, Bristol
Red Dandelion's Business Review is just what we needed. It gave me an independent assessment and overview of our current business and helped us have a structured plan for the future. Simply invaluable."
