what is coaching?

Coaching is a very powerful tool that can bring about huge changes in your life and or your business. Coaching is not about me telling you what to do – rather it is about empowering you to find you own solutions and then motivating you and helping you do it.

It begins with you talking and me listening – I mean really listening to you. I will also ask you lots of thought provoking questions to make you think deeply about what you want to achieve. When it's clear where you want to go, then we will put together a plan. During our time together, I will encourage you, motivate you, keep you focused, teach you new skills, be your champion and walk by your side until we reach your desired destination.

COACHING IS NOT COUNSELLING
Although we share some of the same skills – such as active listening – counsellors and coaches offer very different services – with both having a role to play in personal development. As your coach, I work with you as an equal. Together we work on your life, or (and/or!) your business. Together we will find a way to bring about huge improvements often making big changes along the way so you can reach your destination.

COACHING IS NOT CONSULTING – MOSTLY
Coaching is not the same as consultancy. A coach helps you discover your own answers, helps you create your own business strategies and motivates you to make it happen. A consultant is an expert in your field who tells you how best to move forward. I am a coach. However, when appropriate, where I have the expertise, and if I feel it will help you more than coaching, I will step into being a consultant and or a mentor.

COACHING IS ABOUT GROWTH
No matter which type of coaching you choose, I will challenge you to find out who the real 'you' is, because it's at the heart of everything you do. In both business and life coaching, we will look at values, beliefs, standards and boundaries for when you get clear on these, all other decisions naturally slot into place.

COACHING IS ABOUT CARING
Coaching is about caring and supporting you in a totally honest way. This means I may tell you things that your friends, colleagues and family shy away from. Telling you the truth as I hear and see it, helps you grow to see the bigger picture. Sometimes this means you need to step out of your comfort zone – which can be scary – but I will always be walking beside you during your journey.

COACHING ISN'T ROCKET SCIENCE!
Coaching involves learning new things and doing things differently, but a huge amount is based on common sense and getting back in touch with your inner wisdom. In today's fast-paced, commercial world most of us have lost touch with what we instinctively know to be right for us. Part of my role is to help you see this again and experience the joy of knowing what is right for you and being able to do just that.

Testimonials

One of my clients asked me to give answers and feedback to some special questions she had devised. Later, I was deeply touched when she gave me her answers to the same questions about me and my coaching. These are some of them.

What do I like about having you in my life?
You are a guiding hand of support that I cannot always see, but I know if I stretch out my hand you will always be there. That you embrace tough-love, by challenging me when I really need it, as well as being so supportive. and this I recognised in you the day we first met. It is why I knew our coaching relationship would be special.

What is special or unique about you?
Your passion for a variety of things, that you follow authentically and in a way that is totally true to who you are. Your compassion, which is a combination of empathy and acceptance.

What are you like at your very best?
Warm, funny, embracing, the calm in the storm (and also a lighthouse on dark rocks), someone who is both very human and also in flow with the natural world.
